Overview

Common Viet, a circle of Ritsumeikan APU University, is a group of Vietnamese students who are eager to introduce our culture to international friends and local residents in Beppu as well as Oita through various projects. Beside that, Common Viet also supports Vietnamese students in APU adapting to their foreign college life, along with their passion for artistic expression through performing events.

Our History

Founded in 2010, our circle was initially named “Vietnam Explore”, aiming to promote Vietnamese rich culture to international friends in APU. Later, in 2013, the name was changed into Common Viet. As of Spring 2021, the circle has gone through 8 terms of leadership. Currently, Common Viet has 3 leading representatives and 3 departments: Planning, Public Relations, and Culinary, along with the long-term collaboration with the Vietnamese dance team V-step.

Learning Sharing

Our activities are interactive and cultural-based, therefore being welcoming to reinvent ourselves is important to keep up with the active and changeable nature of working in human-centered activities. We value feedback and embrace imperfections from each other. By being experimental and supporting, we are comfortable to have bold actions and impacts.

Autonomy

Members are encouraged to try new ideas as well as different positions after each project. Either in annual projects or self-ignited, one-time projects, we want our members to have the opportunities to practice their autonomy, to allow them space for growth and ensure a refreshing uniqueness and inclusivity in Common Viet activities.

Enjoyment

We foster a cheerful and uplifting atmosphere both when hosting events and when conducting ourselves internally. Common Viet is a family and we would like to further spread that positivity around in our process of growing and glowing.

Amiability

Mutual respect and clear communication is the key to success in short-term goals, along with creating a sound foundation for a long-term run. It is important to keep our friends close, especially when Common Viet is one of the oldest circles in APU with a wide network and matured experience.

Community

The gist of our activities is adding values to the community. For the Vietnamese community in APU, we would like to help them navigate and explore a meaningful college life. For Beppu and APU at large, we pride ourself to be a vibrant color in a multicultural palette.
